Christmas is an expensive time of year, but it doesn’t have to break the bank. There are so many ways to have a cost-effective Christmas that is full of laughter, joy, and most of all: presents.
Make a list
Making a list is imperative if you want to make sure to remember everything and not be stuck with a last-minute expense. Make lists plural if you need to, one for gifts, one for food, one for events. It might even be a good idea to get a planner or start a spreadsheet!
Look for deals
Supermarket prices can sometimes be expensive, but you don’t always have to go with what you know. There are plenty of deals to be found if you look hard enough. You can even save by doing simple things like buying canned vegetables or single chicken thighs – it tastes just as good.
Make your own Christmas decorations
This can be a really fun family thing to do that doesn’t cost a lot at all. Use random objects from around the house to make your own wreaths or get the kids to make paper chains from items in your recycling. It’s fun and cost-effective.
Sharing is caring
If you know that other family members or friends want to save money this Christmas too, why not share the costs of Christmas decorations and Christmas dinner? After all, Christmas is a time to celebrate with loved ones, so get everyone to chip in with food or bring an item with them.
