About Us

At Carr Farm Garden Centre and Burleydam Garden Centre, our roots run deep. Both garden centres have blossomed into cherished destinations, steeped in family history and a commitment to the community. This year marks a new chapter as Dave and Sue, who have been at the heart of Carr Farm’s growth for decades, took ownership of Burleydam Garden Centre in June 2024. Together, they bring their wealth of experience and passion to build upon Burleydam’s longstanding tradition.

Carr Farm’s Story

Carr Farm, situated in Meols, Wirral, has been a local favourite for generations. It all began in the 1940s when Joseph (Joe) Jones took over the farm. His commendable efforts during World War II, especially in potato production, earned the farm recognition, and the bustling farm shop provided the community with fresh fruit, vegetables, and dairy. When Joe’s children, Dave and Sue, took over the reins, they saw the need for Carr Farm to evolve. By 1982, Carr Farm Garden Centre was born, becoming a cornerstone for local gardeners. The garden centre has expanded and developed over the years, including a major refurbishment in 2014, transforming it into a destination garden centre with a modern retail area and a state-of-the-art restaurant.Despite its growth, Carr Farm has always stayed true to its roots—family values, friendly service, and providing everything you would expect from a modern garden centre.

The History of Burleydam

Burleydam Garden Centre’s story begins in 1859, when Ernest Williams was employed as the head gardener at Llandeilo Hall. Later, he and his wife Alice purchased a florist’s shop in West Derby, Liverpool, laying the foundation for what would eventually become Burleydam Garden Centre. Over the next century, the Williams family expanded their operations, purchasing a field in Forty Pits, Liverpool for tree nurseries in the early 1900s, and by 1948, they had established Gateacre Garden Centre, one of the UK’s first retail garden centres. The Burleydam site was purchased in 1986, marking the beginning of a new chapter. With a major redevelopment in 1989, the centre doubled in size and added a new restaurant, becoming a staple in the community. In 2005, after the closure of Gateacre, all operations moved to Burleydam, continuing its legacy of family-run service.

A New Chapter with Dave, Sue, and Family
