Now that Christmas is over, it’s time to get rid of your real Christmas tree in the most environmentally friendly way possible. One of these ways is to use it in your garden to help attract not only birds, but other wildlife such as hedgehogs and frogs too, as it can be difficult for garden creatures during the cold, long Winter days and nights.
Create a bird feeder
The trunk of your Christmas tree can become a great bird feeder for our little visitors. Simply cut the branches back a bit and then hang food on the stems, such as bird fat balls or bird seed. Not only will it look nice in your garden, it’s also a great natural bird feeder.
Use branches to help plants grow and insects thrive
The branches you just cut off your tree can be used in several different ways. One of these is to give your bulbs and sprouts some extra coverage for growing. In turn, these plants will provide food to your visiting birds. Hanging the branches that still have needles on them from your wall or fence can create a great habitat for insects, which will also provide food for your birds in the long run.
Provide shelter
If you use your tree as a bird feeder, place it somewhere it can also be used as a shelter for birds and other wildlife too. The trunk itself can provide critical shelter from the frost for birds. Just make sure you provide them with an ample supply of water too!
