Most Christmases come with the chinking of glasses, from mulled wine on Christmas Eve and fizz on Christmas morning to a sherry to nod off in the evening. However, if you want to skip the alcohol this festive season, but still want to have a special beverage, here are four drink ideas – two hot and two cold – to give you some inspiration:
Christmas hot chocolate
Hot chocolate is great at any time of year, particularly in winter. To make your hot chocolate more Christmassy without adding any alcohol, add a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg for an instant festive taste and smell.
Gingerbread latte
There is nothing quite like the taste of gingerbread to get you in the Christmas mood. Add a quarter teaspoon each of cinnamon, ground cloves and ground ginger to your latte. A teaspoon of brown sugar and whipping cream on top finishes it off nicely.
Holiday Mule
This mocktail combines equal measures of cinnamon syrup and lime juice with a dash of cranberry juice, all shaken with some ice. Finish off with some ginger beer on top and a sprig of rosemary.
Christmas Lights
A mocktail named after a Christmas decoration is sure to be festive. Take five ounces of lemon juice, two ounces of sorrel tea, two ounces of cranberry juice and shake it all over ice. Pour into a champagne flute and finish off with a dash of dry kombucha.
Get a head start on the festivities and have a practice run of your favourite drink now, put your feet up and enjoy.
