If you’re only just beginning your gardening journey, then it can be very important to start small and easy. You may want to take it step by step, even if you are keen to start building your dream garden complete with a patio area and rattan garden furniture to enjoy nature. There is little to gain from starting too big or too complicated, but there are many flowers that beginners can start with, especially as spring is on the horizon.
1. Sunflowers
Bright and colourful, sunflowers are a big favourite among gardeners for their appearance but also because they are very easy to grow and maintain. The only things they will require regularly are staking and watering, and it can be a lot of fun to watch how tall they grow.
2. Marigolds
Marigolds are also very bright and cheery, bringing colour into your garden. Being easy to plant and grow from the seed up, they will need regular watering and deadheading but are generally low maintenance. In addition, they are beneficial to the insects that you need for your garden to thrive.
3. Snapdragons
Taking their name from the way their ‘mouths’ snap like a dragon when the stem is squeezed, snapdragons are also low maintenance. They require sun and water and will succeed in adding depth to your garden borders.
4. Pansies
Pansies also need the basics in garden maintenance: watering, deadheading, and lots of sunshine. They add colour but can also survive colder conditions in your garden if the springtime weather is taking its time to warm up.
