It has become the norm for us to exchange Christmas gifts on Christmas Day itself, but traditionally, presents were exchanged on Christmas Eve. Some people have adopted the tradition of a Christmas Eve box, which is a nice way to give some lowkey gifts the night before and get into the festive mood.
Here are a few ideas to get you started on making your own Christmas Eve box:
Christmas pyjamas
A set of Christmas-themed pyjamas are a great addition to the Christmas Eve box. Not only are they practical, but it is a great way of getting young, excited children on the road to bed. They will be more than eager to get their new pyjamas on, which is one bedtime step ticked off the list.
Christmas film
Pick either an old classic or modern hit and snuggle up on the sofa to watch a Christmas film and unwind before the big day. Add some hot chocolate for the full-on cosy film night feel.
Reindeer food
A firm favourite amongst kids is reindeer food. A simple bag of oats will suffice, or you can keep an eye open for local shops selling it as a fun item. Just before bed, kids can sprinkle it outside for Rudolph and his friends.
Christmas decorations
Traditionally, finishing touches were put on the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, so a Christmas ornament or bauble is a nice addition to the box.
As the years pass, you will build a lovely collection of Christmas Eve gifts, each with their own memories.
