The BBQ has become as much a part of the British summertime as Wimbledon and trips to the seaside.
If you are planning to have some friends over to laze on your rattan garden furniture with BBQ food, follow these tips to ensure it is grilled safely.
Refrigerate your food properly
Among the most common foods that are grilled on BBQs in this country are burgers and chicken.
However, raw meat of this sort can be a haven for germs, especially in warm weather. If your meat has been frozen, make sure to thaw it thoroughly in the fridge, rather than at room temperature. The latter will cause germs to multiply.
Practise good hygiene
Your hands should be thoroughly washed prior to handling the food that will go on the BBQ grill. They should then be washed again afterwards.
Give the kitchen surfaces and any utensils used a good clean with hot water plus washing up liquid both before and after too.
Clean the grills properly
The grill must be cleaned out before you fire it up, with a moist paper towel or cloth being ideal.
If the grill has baked on grime, a hard wire brush will get rid of it, but make sure to check the grill after using one. That way, you will ensure that no bristles are left on the grill to get into the food.
Grilling
Make sure the food on the grill has reached a hot enough temperature to kill off any germs. You can buy food thermometers that will help with that.
We hope this helps ensure you have a safe and fun BBQ experience this summer!
