A BBQ can really make a camping trip that bit more special. Cooking up hot food on the grill will provide nourishment, but will also be a bonding activity. When it comes to camping BBQs though, the question remains: charcoal or gas?
Reasons to choose a gas BBQ
If you are planning to stay at a camping site, a gas BBQ can be a better choice. This is because a lot of sites do not allow the use of charcoal grills, due to the smoke potentially annoying other campers when they are chilling on their Outback reclining chairs.
Another argument in favour of gas BBQs is that they are quicker to cook on, because they reach the right temperature straight away. Then, there is the fact that they require less cleaning, and there is no ash to get rid of.
Reasons to choose a charcoal BBQ
By this point, you might be thinking that the choice is simple – not so, though. There are arguments in favour of a charcoal BBQ too.
For one, the smoky flavouring that it gives to any food cooked on it is unbeatable. If you opt to camp alone rather than at a site, no one will be bothered by the smoke.
A second benefit of a charcoal grill is that it is easier to replace the charcoal when it runs out compared with the gas cylinder needed for a gas BBQ.
A gas BBQ can be better for campsites, while a charcoal one is unbeatable for off-the-beaten track trips and garden lunches.
