Gardeners’ World’s gardening expert and host Monty Don has recently revealed a few jobs that are good to undertake in your garden at the moment.
Remove leaves from your tomato plants
In order to give your tomatoes maximum sunlight and ventilation, remove any leaves that might be shading the fruit or any foliage gathered on the stem. Your tomatoes will ripen quicker when exposed to more sunlight, and more air will lower the risk of tomato blight.
Any clusters of foliage that seem tightly curled are just an indicator of varying temperatures and are nothing to worry about.
Remove any lily beetles
Lily beetles, or often known as the scarlet beetle, lay eggs on some lilies. The parent beetles are bright red so will stand out so can easily be knocked off, but the larvae appear as dark brown spots on the foliage. You can scrape these away to stop them laying any more eggs.
Prepare delphiniums for regrowth
At this time of year, delphiniums have stopped flowering, so they can be pruned. The first action to take is to get rid of the seed heads, and then you can cut the plant all the way to the soil. Clear the area and the flower should regrow later on this summer.
Continue your general upkeep
These are a few of the tasks that are good to do right now, but it’s important to continue the general upkeep of your garden regularly so you can always enjoy the benefits from your Norfolk Leisure LIFE garden furniture.
