How to make the most of small outdoor spaces

You don’t need a large back garden to enjoy some outdoor space. Even the smallest balcony or most compact patio can become a little oasis with a little imagination and some great furniture ideas.

Pouffes, stools and folding chairs

Covered in bright waterproof fabric, or made from weather resistant rattan, pouffes are a great idea for small spaces, which can easily be brought indoors if the weather turns. Team with folding stools and chairs (such as trendy Lifestyle garden furniture) matching and contrasting the fabric and colours for a uniform look.

Fun and quirky

When space is at a premium, make the most of it by investing in some quirky and fun one-off pieces, such as a hanging chair or garden swing seat, filled with sumptuous cushions you will never want to sit anywhere else. If there’s enough room, hang a hammock or swinging tipi – they are just the thing for relaxing with a good book, and portable too.

Daybeds and igloos

An igloo dome is a fun way to add a conservatory that doesn’t take up too much space or investment. They can be used much like a gazebo, keeping you warm and dry during wet weather. Alternatively, a daybed is a cosy alternative to regular sun loungers, and a stylish addition to rattan garden furniture.

Outdoor kitchens and bars

Last but not least, portable outdoor kitchen carts, barbecues and drinks trolleys can be wheeled out whenever they’re needed and put away out of sight after use. Choosing something multifunctional will cut down on space, as well as being a great addition to your outdoor entertainment area.
