Four reasons why birds might be ignoring your feeders

Few things are more frustrating for bird lovers than putting up feeders only to be met with avian indifference. It is a surprisingly common occurrence however and there are simple reasons why it may be happening to you.

Food quality

Birds will not just guzzle any grub that you put in your feeders – you must get it right. If there are no birds to watch from the Supremo Carina garden furniture, it could be because the food is stale or the wrong type. Make sure to replace it regularly and base the food choice on the preferences of birds common to your locale.

Feeder positioning

Another reason why you might be struggling to get birds to visit your feeders is where they are positioned. Birds need to feel safe before they risk feeding, which means having cover close by should a predator pop up. If your feeders are situated in exposed areas with no nearby shrubs or trees, birds will be wary.

Feeder maintenance

Unless they are truly desperate for food, birds will avoid feeders that have not been cleaned. The bacteria and mould that grow in dirty feeders are a common cause of disease, so it is essential to keep yours clean and well maintained.

Seasonal variations

You may find that bird visits to your feeders are less frequent at some times of the year than others. For instance, many birds migrate in the winter months. Meanwhile, autumn provides plenty of natural food sources, so feeders are not as badly needed.

Any of these factors could be causing feeder failure, so make the adjustments you need to see birds come flocking back.
