Spring is now in full swing, and the first hints of summer will soon start to appear. By this point, the earth in your garden should be frost-free and softening, so you can get planting. Here are three flowers that can be put in the ground during May and June.
Dill
This is an annual plant that produces delicate yellow flowers when it blooms. If you plant it in May or June, you will be able to bask in its sunny colouring from your Lifestyle garden furniture between July and October. In addition to adding bright and warm shades to the garden, dill can also be used to season cooking.
Cornflowers
These bloom in a beautiful shade of medium blue, with some darker purple colouring towards the centre. They make for an appealing sight when sown alongside some bright red corn poppies. If you plant them in late May, they will flower between June and August.
Scabious
Scabious flowers bloom in colours ranging from blue and purple to pink. They can only be planted outside when the soil is completely free of frost and will come up in June. The scabiosa columbaria – otherwise known as Butterfly Blue – is a good choice because it is a hardy perennial. These flowers are not just lovely to look at, but they also attract butterflies to the garden, which is good for pollination.
These are just three of the many flowers that you can plant in late spring and early summer, and they will make for an attractive contrast for your garden.
