Why is wildlife important?

Last Friday, March 3rd, marked World Wildlife Day, and this special annual appreciation day emphasises the impact wildlife has on our environment. This goes for all wildlife, from plants to elephants, and even the little critters you might see in your garden – such as the little birds that may hop onto your rattan garden furniture. The importance of wildlife is incredible, and it helps us in many different ways. Read on to learn more.

Mental health

Being in nature and doing a spot of gardening are both considered to be very good for mental health, as they are said to be calming and offer a chance to recharge. Interactions with wildlife also have these benefits, which is why bird watching, for example, is such a popular hobby.

Food and eco system

Fruit and vegetables growing in our gardens rely on the wildlife around us in order to thrive and, in turn, these food sources are good for our health. Wildlife is also a massive part of the eco system. Keeping our wildlife happy means our plants will be happy and, therefore, so will we.

Medicine

A lot of elements used in medicine come from plants or trees, so it’s important we look after these. Trees rely on nature and the wildlife around them to thrive, so nature needs to be protected.

Help wildlife help us

Doing your part to protect the environment and the wildlife in it, even by just taking steps in your own garden to make nature feel welcome, has a massive positive impact on the health of not just the environment, but ourselves too.
