It may be cold and dark at the moment, but we will soon be heading into spring.
That is the time when people start to think about getting out the BBQ. The chances are that it will need some cleaning first though, so follow these tips to do it well.
Buy a cover
You can reduce the amount of cleaning that has to be done if you put something over it. That will be especially true if you have a cast iron BBQ that stays outside all the time.
Choosing Garland garden furniture covers or similar will most likely do the trick.
Use heat
After checking it’s all still in one piece, put some fresh coals on at a high temperature to burn away any bits of food that are stuck to the BBQ from last year. When the smoke clears, it’s a sign that they’re gone.
Grill cleaning
Start by putting newspaper over the grill and then spray on some water, to effectively provide a steam clean. Consider scrubbing it using a brush with bristles made of tough wire to remove any pieces of food that remain.
The base
After the grill, you should clean the base by tipping out ash and then washing it thoroughly with washing up liquid and warm water.
Deal with rust
Patches of rust can appear on the body of a BBQ, but you can get rid of them using tomato ketchup – of all things! Just squirt it on and then wipe any rust away.
