Three tips for attracting long-tailed tits

The long-tailed tit is among the most common UK bird species, with hundreds of thousands known to be in the country. That means it should not be too difficult to get them to come to your garden, and this is the case. If you follow these simple tips, you will be spotting long-tailed tits at your feeders in no time.

Provide the right foods

This is always the most important tip when it comes to attracting birds, because they are forever on the lookout for food. Long-tailed tits are not fussy birds, so they will eat most things. They do have some favourites though – including suet blocks, unsalted peanuts and dried mealworms. If you add those to your feeders, they will come.

Grow trees and bushes

If you want to watch long-tailed tits from your Lifestyle garden furniture, having some bushes and trees will be a big help. That is because they use them to nest in. Unfortunately, nesting boxes will not work as an alternative, because long-tailed tits simply will not use them. A bush will grow quicker than a tree and the birds are known to love hawthorn bushes.

Keep the predators away

Like all other bird species, long-tailed tits are always conscious of potential threats from predators. That means you need to provide protection against these if you want them to visit your garden. Add some motion-sensitive sprinklers and keep the feeders away from places where cats can hide.

These tips should bring long-tailed tits to your garden.
