Like most other parts of the UK, the Wirral is home to plenty of places where you can catch sightings of different bird species.
Below are some of the top spots to visit if you want to get into birdwatching.
RSPB Marshside
You will find some of the most exciting and diverse wildlife in the Wirral at this wetland reserve. There are three birdwatching trails provided by the RSPB, and each is worth exploring.
During the summer, the island areas attract lapwings, avocets and other species as they look for places to build their nests. In winter months, wigeons and pink-footed geese can be seen, as well as larger predators like kestrels.
Burton Mere Wetlands
The Burton Mere Wetlands are on the Dee Estuary nature reserve, and they are regularly visited by an impressive array of birds.
If you take a trip to this beautiful spot with some bird nuts or seeds, you stand the chance of sighting redshanks, kingfishers, grey herons and swallows among others as they hunt for food.
Dibbinsdale Nature Reserve
Found alongside Brotherton Park, this nature reserve is another fantastic place to indulge your interest in birds.
The busy beak drumming of woodpeckers can frequently be heard among the trees of this lovely site, and it is also home to its very own tawny owl. There are many other large birds to spot too, including buzzards, which have become regular visitors to the reserve in recent years.
Any of these locations will provide top quality bird watching, so be sure to take along your RSPB bird food!
