How to keep snails and slugs away from your plants

One problem faced by everyone with a garden is that of snails and slugs. You may not be too worried about them, but despite their harmless appearances, they can do serious damage to plants – including chewing up the leaves. Here are some ideas for keeping them away.

Set up copper barriers

Putting barriers made of copper around your pots or beds will help to keep them off, because they are repelled by copper. It is not widely known, but snails and slugs receive slight electric shocks when they touch copper. If you use it to set up a wire barrier, your plants should be safe.

Create beer traps

If you want to keep your plants pristine for gazing at from your Supremo Tuscany furniture, beer traps are another great idea. All you have to do is put some kind of shallow container into the soil, buried up to the rim. Then fill it with around an inch of beer before waiting. Snails and slugs will be drawn to it by the smell.

Scatter crushed eggshells

This is another simple method for getting rid of pesky snails and slugs. It works by making the soil too harsh and uncomfortable for them to walk on. Break the shells into tiny bits and then spread them so that they surround your plants. This is an option available to anyone.

Try these handy tips if you have a problem with snails and slugs in your garden.
