As summer fast approaches, it is time to think about garden parties – with the BBQ at the centre of the event.
Cooking outdoors on a hot sunny day is one of the pleasures of life, but you must do so safely – especially if there are children present. Keep reading to learn how you can keep them safe as you BBQ.
Create a child-free zone
Before you light up your grill, you should declare the area around it a child-free zone. That zone should encompass an area of three feet around the BBQ, and can even be marked out with chalk.
Keep hold of lighters and matches
The lighters or matches that you use to fire up the grill need to be kept well away from curious children. Make sure you know where they are at all times, and store them where the kids cannot possibly reach them.
Keep flammable items away from the grill
There are likely to be items present that can be a potential fire risk, like paper plates and napkins. Try to keep them with you on your rattan garden furniture, well away from the grill. The chances are you will be sitting down to eat anyway, so it will be natural to keep them there.
Avoid alcohol while grilling
You may want to have a beer at some point, particularly if it is a hot day. This should be saved until after you finish grilling though, because you need to keep a clear head.
Follow these tips to keep your kids (and fellow adults!) safe during your next BBQ.
