Christmas is one of the most joyous times of year, and for many, it comes with a busy to-do list and much excitement. If you have a four-legged friend in your life, they may pick up on the energy and either join in or wonder what all the fuss is about.
In order to keep your dog healthy and happy, here are a few tips to bear in mind over the Christmas period:
Christmas food
Dogs can’t always tolerate the food we can, and sometimes it can be dangerous for them. To keep your pet safe, it’s best to stick to your usual dog food or specialist dog treats. Be careful around chocolate, which features heavily at Christmas but is no-go for dogs. Raisins are also toxic for dogs, so make sure your mince pies stay out of reach of snuffling noses.
Christmas decorations
If your dog is playful, they may see the baubles come out and think it is time for fetch. Keep the baubles out of reach and hang other tempting decorations higher up the tree. Also, have a look around and see if any of your side table decorations or candles are in the firing line of a wagging tail.
Routine
Dogs are creatures of habit. Try to stick to your usual activities and feed times where possible and provide a quiet spot for your pooch to take themselves off to. If your dog is used to a lot of exercise, Christmas should be no different – make sure you take your canine companion for regular, decent walks.
By following these tips, you’ll have a content dog that is happy to have a snooze during your festive fun.
