Four types of fruit you can grow in a smaller garden

Fruit is something many long to grow in their gardens.

The bright colours add appeal, while the fruit tastes great. It is also a money-saver, but will it work with a smaller garden?

The answer is yes!

Here are four fruits you can grow even if you don’t have much space.

Blueberries

Blueberries can be planted either in small garden beds or pots. They will grow well in both partially shaded areas or with full sunlight, and ripen between July and September.

By late summer, you’ll be able to sit back on your Supremo Tuscany furniture and savour them.

Autumn raspberries

You can plant autumn raspberries in most soils – as long as they’re not chalky.

Make sure to keep the soil well drained if it does not drain naturally, to prevent sogginess. You will see them start to bloom in August through October, and the red berries will add colour and texture to an autumn garden. They are also delicious to eat.

Redcurrants

If you want a fruit that will ripen at the height of the summer, redcurrants are a great choice.

They can be planted somewhere that is shady, but letting them get plenty of sun will produce a fuller flavour. They should ripen during July, but be sure to prune the shoots.

Rhubarb

Plant this in border soil that is rich in nutrients and moisture – the best spot will be one that catches the sun. Then, it will be ready to make your rhubarb crumble!
