4 must-have plants for the winter months

Even though we’re still technically in the throes of winter, this doesn’t mean we should neglect our gardens or live with a garden that’s devoid of life or colour. Luckily, there are plenty of plants that love the winter months and that will bloom right on through frost and snow to brighten up your garden throughout these colder days.

1.Pansies

Winter pansies are especially adept at blooming in cold weather, becoming one of the main features of many flower displays in winter. Their colour brings life to an otherwise dreary cold few months. They are great for bordering your garden or Supremo carina lounge areas.

2.Snowdrops

Snowdrops are not the brightest of plant, but they will flower even in the height of winter when it seems like nothing else will. They are also known for appearing through sheets of snow, meaning they are very aptly named.

3.Primrose

Primrose plants will withstand the winter and give your garden the pop of colour it may need. They can survive the frost and require little maintenance, meaning you won’t have to spend too long in the cold looking after them.

4. Camellia

Also known as the ‘rose of winter’, these plants will flower between September and May, adding colour to your winter garden or greenhouse. They come in many shades of red, white and pink, and the toughest of these types will bloom in particularly frosty conditions. They work best in the shade near other plants, such as tall shrubs or azaleas.
