Christmas trees that come with the lights already added are becoming a popular choice these days. This is because they are able to offer atmospheric, twinkling effects, while the absence of visible wires makes them less busy-looking and more visually appealing.

Most artificial pre-lit Christmas trees come with warm white bulbs that help to create a cosy glow – especially when other lights are turned off.

The differences between pre-lit and fibre optic trees

People sometimes confuse pre-lit Christmas trees with fibre optic ones. In fact, they are two different things, although there are some similarities.

The main factor they have in common is that both are types of artificial tree with lights built into them. How that is done is not the same in each case though.

Fibre optic trees have the lights fitted inside the branches. They use multi-coloured lights that change and produce a shimmering effect.

Pre-lit trees have strings of lights that are attached to the tree branches, replicating the look of a standard lit-up Christmas tree. The light strings are less obvious than with a standard tree, and they come with either white or multi-coloured bulbs.

Why choose a pre-lit tree?

Pre-lit Christmas trees come with several advantages that have contributed to their popularity.

The first is that they are more traditional in appearance than fibre optic trees, but without the problems of tangled wires and broken bulbs that can come with hanging your own fairy lights.

A second advantage is that they are easy to set up, while a third is that the LED lighting is very energy efficient.
