Three ways to maximise a small garden

We are not all fortunate enough to have large garden spaces, but even a small one can be made to work for you. This blog will provide some tips for getting the best out of a smaller garden.

Keep it free of clutter

If your garden is not that spacious, the last thing you want is clutter lying around. This does not necessarily mean junk – it could be things that you use, but that are not currently in use. For example, a BBQ should be stored away unless you are using it. The same goes for your rattan garden furniture, as this will also help to keep it in good condition.

Make use of vertical space

One great idea if you want to grow food or plants in a small garden is to exploit the vertical space. You could put up some hanging baskets, as these are suitable for growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. Another option is to put up trellises, which are perfect for climbing plants. A third is to make a ‘green’ wall using modular panels or pocket planters.

Add outdoor lighting

Putting up lights in your garden will help to create the illusion that there is more space. If the lights are carefully positioned, they will draw the vision outwards rather than inwards. This means its edges become harder to discern, so it appears larger. Coloured lighting will add beauty and atmosphere too, especially at night.

If you try any of these three tips, you should find that your small garden does not hold you back.
