Three ways to extend the lifespan of your BBQ

Many people consider a BBQ to be an essential addition to summer, but your plans for a back garden feast could be ruined if the grill is not maintained properly.

If you follow these simple steps though, you can keep your BBQ primed for action.

Cover when not in use

When your BBQ is not being used, it should ideally be stored somewhere like a shed.

Not everyone has that luxury though. Don’t despair if that’s the case for you, as your grill does not have to be abandoned to the elements. Just as outdoor furniture can be protected with items like garland garden furniture covers, so similar equipment can be bought to shield your BBQ.

Clean it carefully

Cleaning the BBQ body and grill should really be done just after it has been used. The longer you leave it, the harder dried food will be to remove.

A damp cloth or sponge should be enough to wipe away bits of food and ash slurry, but spraying oven cleaner on the grate will get rid of any more encrusted pieces. Scrub it with a hard wire brush after applying the cleaner.

Avoid rust developing

It’s easy for a BBQ grill to develop rust, which will not produce great results when cooking on it.

Happily, it is just as easy to get rid of rust. Anything from soap and warm water to lemon juice will work, but greasing your grill using oil before use should enable you to prevent rust developing in the first place.
