It’s prime holiday season, which means many of us are getting ready to jet off to somewhere warmer or more relaxing for a while. However, before you pack your suitcase and head off, make sure you consider your garden and how you can prep it so you’re not coming home to a tired and unkept home after a week or two away.
Make sure your plants are watered
Houseplants and outside plants alike will need watering while you’re gone, so either arrange for someone to visit to keep an eye on things or for outside plants you can have an automatic irrigation system to keep on top of things.
Have a last-minute tidy up
Deadhead any flowers that need it, but also get ahead and cut off any buds that are blooming so that when you return, you’ll have fresh new flowers. This is also an opportunity to get rid of any plants or bedding that seems to have had their day, ready to start planting fresh when you get back.
Don’t plant before you go
Any tidying up that happens is useful for your garden, but avoid planting new buds or crops before you go because you won’t have the time to nurture them. It’s best to wait until you’re back to make any major changes.
Cover up your garden furniture
Cover any furniture with Garland garden furniture covers to ensure that they are protected from any weather your garden might face while you’re gone.
