December inevitably comes with a bombardment of adverts depicting family gatherings and Christmas parties, yet for many, Christmas Day is often spent in solitude. This is often a personal choice for the natural introverts of the world, but this year it may feel like a more comfortable option for those who would normally gather with their family.
A quiet Christmas alone can be just as wonderful as a noisy, busy affair. Here are some tips on how to have a great Christmas by yourself:
Christmas decorations
Just because you’re on your own, it doesn’t mean you can’t decorate. Put a tree up, throw some tinsel about and brighten up the place with some fairy lights. You’ll feel festive instantly.
Get some great food in
The joy of not hosting many people is that you have more budget to spend on yourself. Indulge in a few tasty treats, put your feet up and enjoy.
Embrace technology
Perhaps you adore an entire day in genuine solitude, and if so, you can grab a book, stick a Christmas film on and stay in your pyjamas all day. If you do find yourself craving a little contact, however, arrange a video call and join in your family gathering from afar. You can return to quiet bliss at any time.
While this year you may spend Christmas alone, hold on to the hope that by next year, we should be back to normal. It won’t be long before we’re able to hang out and hug our loved ones without thinking about it once more.
