Five animals to look for in your garden this spring

With the weather gradually getting warmer over the next couple of months, more wildlife will start to appear in your garden. As you start to get your garden spring and summer ready, get out that rattan garden furniture and see if you can spot these five animals making an appearance.

Hedgehogs

Sadly, the number of hedgehogs has decreased over the past few years, but when they come to your garden for respite after winter hibernation, there are actions you can take to help them, such as allowing them easy access through gaps in the fence.

Robins

Robins can be spotted all year round, but, during the spring, pairs of them will sort out which territories they will be defending and where they will be breeding. Leaving bird seed out will help these little feathered friends.

Grey squirrels

Grey squirrels are active all year round as they do not hibernate, but spring is a great time to enjoy your garden and spot them running around and clambering up trees.

Frogs

If you have a garden pond, you’re more likely to spot these. Their tadpoles will grow into small frogs during spring and early summer, so give these amphibians a welcome stay by providing vegetation around your pond.

Goldfinches

In spring, these colourful birds can be heard nearby setting up their living territory. They tend to enjoy sunflower seeds from hanging feeders, so if you want to see more of these, decorate your trees with bird feeders they can easily reach.

Keep an eye out for these lovely creatures this spring and enjoy your garden as it comes to life.
