While the Christmas tree is the festive centrepiece of many homes, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. Other decorative displays can also be very effective, and can be used either to complement or even replace the traditional Christmas tree. Here are some other Christmas decoration ideas to inspire you:
Lit trees
If you fancy a change from the usual Christmas fir tree hung with baubles, why not take a look at the range of lit trees on the market? You can choose between a fir, birch or twig tree, or opt for one in a contemporary style with straight, LED lit branches. There are also fibre optic fir trees, which require little or no decoration as they are covered in bright lights that constantly change colour. Size-wise, these trees come in a variety of height options, from a smaller two or four-foot fibre optic tree to a tall birch measuring up to 1.8 metres.
Mini trees, wreaths and garlands
If you haven’t got enough floor space for a tree, why not consider a mini tree that can sit on a table top or sideboard? Small, potted mini trees can be decorated with smaller baubles or other decorations. They can also be used as additional trees, placed in a bedroom, home office or kitchen, for example. Typically, these tend to range in size from 60 to 120 centimetres. Don’t forget wreaths and garlands too – the former can be placed on interior and exterior doors, while the latter looks great draped over a fireplace or twisted round a bannister.
Christmas lighting
A display of Christmas lights looks very effective both inside and outside the home. You can place a string of lights practically anywhere, and the range of styles now available includes clip-on robins, cherries, baubles and pinecone-shaped light strings, alongside candle bridges, light curtains, stars, snowflakes, snowmen and deer. There are also lit-up Christmas villages to consider, and you can also buy canvases illuminated by LED or fibre optic lighting in a similar style. Most of these items are battery operated, so they can easily be placed anywhere. You can even purchase LED lit candles or dioramas, which are small paper boxes shaped like an old-fashioned television that display a festive scene.
Christmas table
Apart from the opening of presents, the Christmas feast tends to be the most anticipated part of the season. Dressing the table with a festive tablecloth or runner and napkins can really make it feel like the special occasion it is. Typical designs include white or silver linen with a snowflake print, midnight blue with winter woods embroidery or patterned items in festive red and green tartan. You could also add other eye-catching details by scattering some baubles around or running some tinsel along the centre of the table. If you have one, you could also fill a large glass bowl or vase with baubles to display as a stunning centrepiece.
With hundreds of styles available, step away from the traditional Christmas tree this year and opt for decorations with a difference.
