A guide to indoor Christmas lights

Whether it’s a set of fairy lights for the Christmas tree or a more elaborate lit-up indoor display, Christmas lights are one of the first things that spring to mind when it comes to decorating your home for the festive season. There are lots to choose from, so this handy guide might help you make up your mind.

Indoor or outdoor lights

When shopping, you may notice that many of the lights for sale are suitable for indoor or outdoor use. If you’re planning to display them solely indoors, you might simply want to opt for indoor lights – but what about next year? If you like to mix things up a bit each festive season, then why not go for lights you can use wherever you like?

Colour options

When choosing string lights, there will often be several colour options – usually warm white, ice white, blue or multi-coloured options. Warm white gives a more golden glow, while crisp ice white can really stand out. Alternatively, why not pick blue or multi-coloured for something a little different this year?

Power source

Your set of lights will either require a mains connection or will run from batteries, so think about where you want to place them. If a socket isn’t nearby, battery-powered lights may be a better choice.

Length of lights

Fairy lights come in all sorts of size options, from 100 to over 1,000 lights per string. How many you need depends on how big your tree is, or the measurements of your intended position if placing elsewhere.
