How to create a more resilient garden

People sometimes have fixed ideas about what a good garden looks like. They believe it must contain a lawn that is perfectly manicured, vegetables and flowers in neat symmetrical beds and absolutely no weeds.

The problem is that this can actually make your garden more vulnerable to pests and the elements. Read on to discover what you should be aiming for to keep your garden healthy.

It’s all about biodiversity

The reason people create gardens of that sort is because they look appealing when you are relaxing on your Lifestyle garden furniture. There is more than one kind of beauty though, and you should let go of restrictive ideas. You can make a garden full of biodiversity that is lovely to look at and far more resilient.

Keep some of the weeds

To use just one example, leaving some of the weeds in your garden is a great way to attract helpful creatures. Bees love the nectar that dandelions provide, and they will pollinate your garden in exchange.

You can also keep items like stones and bits of dead wood and leaves, as they make for fine wildlife habitats.

Add a pond

Adding a pond to your garden will attract toads, newts and frogs – all of which will keep pests under control.

Create a wildflower area

Setting aside a section of the garden for wildflowers will do wonders. In this area, you should leave the grass to grow and allow weeds like nettles. As a result, your garden will become a haven for ladybirds, butterflies and moths, all of which eat pests.

Follow this guide if you want to grow a pretty and resilient garden in time for summer.
