What to avoid when placing bird feeders in your garden

The single best method for getting birds to come to your garden is to put up some feeders. Where you actually place them can make a big difference to how successful you are in attracting them though. This blog will outline what not to do when placing bird feeders.

Putting them in windy spots

One thing that you should really try to avoid is putting the feeders in spots where they will be exposed to the wind. Strong wind makes feeding more difficult for birds and forces them to use valuable energy in fighting back against it. This defeats the object of providing a food source. Plus, exposure to severe gales could damage your feeders.

Placing them in direct sunlight

The wind is not the only element that you need to be wary of – the sun can also be a problem when it comes to bird feeders. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight leads to condensation, which will cause the bird food to spoil. Aside from being a waste of money, this can cause harm to the birds.

Erecting them within reach of predators

While you want the feeders to be positioned somewhere that enables you to watch the birds from your Lifestyle garden furniture, you must also consider predators. This means areas directly next to trees, hedges, fences or walls should be avoided. They make it too easy for cats and will ensure that wary birds do not come close.

Now you know what to avoid when putting up feeders if you are serious about attracting birds to your garden.
