Reducing stress at Christmas time is paramount if you want to enjoy the festive period with your family. Luckily, there are several ways to give yourself time to enjoy advent while making sure your Christmas Day goes as smoothly as possible.
Budgeting
This is the key for Christmas. If you aren’t able to spend a lot in one go, make sure to start saving a few months early. If it’s too late for that, reduce your budget to one you can manage.
Gifts
Look out for offers in shops to make the most of your budget. Some families make a rule where you only get the children presents at Christmas, or start a family Secret Santa.
Making Christmas dinner
If it’s your turn to host, don’t try and do it all yourself. Give everyone a task or tell them to bring something specific, so everyone chips in and the stress is reduced on yourself.
Christmas cards
A good way to alleviate stress is to write and send your Christmas cards as early as possible, perhaps setting aside a morning or afternoon for the task. Make sure you pay the right postage before sending them, and keep an eye on some of the Royal Mail strikes planned for this year. To save money next year, look out for shops selling cards just after Christmas.
Look after yourself
Even though Christmas is a jolly season, the Christmas decorations and Christmas lights can often give you the urge to indulge too much in food and drink. It’s important to still look after yourself this festive season. Enjoy yourself, but stay healthy!
