Three vegetables suitable to grow in small gardens

The lack of a big garden does not have to be a barrier to growing your own vegetables. You just need to choose which ones you plant carefully, so that you can make the most of your space. Here are some ideal vegetables for smaller gardens.

Kale

If you plant kale, you will be able to enjoy the colour as well as the taste. It makes a great vegetable choice for adding to meals, but also looks attractive when you are sitting on your Outback reclining chairs. This is because it comes in various forms, each of which has its own shade.

You can grow anything from green to scarlet kale, but be sure to get it in the ground during spring.

Shallots

Shallots are a type of onion, and they’re perfect for anyone who has limited space for growing. The reason for this is that a single set will produce up to six shallots – a ‘set’ meaning one immature bulb. This means you don’t have to plant that many bulbs to end up with a decent crop.

Plant them during winter or early spring and harvest them late in the summer.

Early potatoes

These are great for people with small gardens, because they will grow just as well in plant pots. They are quick to grow compared with other types of potato too, and are often expensive to buy.

This is another good reason to grow your own, and you should aim to plant them during March.

There are plenty of vegetables that will work in smaller gardens, to suit all tastes – so get growing!
