Maybe you’re the sort to take down the Christmas decorations on Boxing Day, or maybe you wait until the 5th of January. Either way, once Christmas is done and the last of the mince pies have been eaten, our thoughts turn to the new year. Rather than the traditional plan of giving something up, why not do something that feels a bit more inspirational or positive this new year?
Here are three suggestions to get your ideas flowing:
Pick a word
This idea sees you pick just one word and make it your theme for the year. It could be anything from “joy” or “creative” to “peace” or “fun”. Picking one word helps keep you focused and gives you lots of leeway around how to fulfil it.
Year-long challenge
Rather than giving something up, why not think about adding something to your skill set? You could vow to learn a new language, take up a new sport or learn to play an instrument.
Vow to do something every day
The possibilities really are endless with this one. Perhaps you could write a minimum number of words a day and have a novel by the end of the year, post an encouraging meme to social media daily or read a poem per day.
After the year we’ve had, we are all looking to a fresh start. Remember to be kind to yourself after the stress of 2020 and look for the joy in the new year.
