The summer may not be over just yet, but it’s time to start thinking about preparing your garden for the onset of autumn.
There are things to be done to ensure that your plants and equipment survive the colder months, which we’ll explore in further detail here.
Protect your furniture
If you have garden furniture, such as chairs and tables from the Supremo Carina range, these will need to be protected as the weather changes. You can move them indoors when not in use, if you have the space. Otherwise, consider investing in some furniture covers to protect them.
Shield vulnerable plants
Not all of the plants in your garden will be hardy enough to cope with the shift to colder days and nights. Those plants that are more at risk from frost should be brought indoors – either into the home or a greenhouse. Make sure there are no snails or insects in the compost first though!
Weed the vegetable patch
Those who have planted vegetables in their garden should ensure that the patch has been thoroughly cleared ahead of autumn. That means getting rid of weeds and pulling out any crops that have been left over from summer.
Begin spring planting
You may not realise it, but some plants can be put into the ground during early autumn. Bulbs that flower in the spring should really be planted around September to allow them the right amount of time. This will give you something to look forward to next year, when they fill your garden with colour and life for the new spring.
