How to stay cosy in your garden this winter

Usually, at this time of year, the rattan garden furniture has been stored away or you’ve thrown the cover over your outdoor seating. However, this year, as we find ourselves still restricted to our homes for the most part, we are turning to our gardens as an extra room or simply somewhere to go and sit in the fresh air for a while.

It’s not a typically pleasant time of year to sit still outside for too long, but don’t let that put you off. Here are some suggestions for making your garden cosy this winter:

Fire pits

There are many fire pits available in varying sizes and price ranges. Once they get going, they give off a lovely, fierce heat.

Shelter

Very often, the most freezing aspect of being outside is the wind – even a small breeze can be enough to work its way under a collar and chill you. Set up your furniture so your back is to a wall or fence. If possible, have some overhead shelter too, such as a gazebo or parasol.

Cosy extras

Layer up, put up your hood or put a hat on to stop heat escaping, and use blankets wrapped around your legs for any draughts. Hot water bottles are brilliant hot spots to cuddle or to lay on your lap, and they really do make a difference.

With a few simple measures in place, there is nothing to stop you enjoying your back garden through this pandemic season, even if the weather is not as summery.
