How to organise your shed

If you have a shed or garage, you no doubt use the extra storage space to the max. However, at times, you may find it becomes too cluttered and disorganised. Here are a few ideas to help keep your shed space organised and functioning well:

Clear out

All organisation sessions should start with a thorough clear out. Be ruthless and get rid of any items you no longer need or want by selling or posting them on recycling groups.

Group objects together

Keep similar items together. For example, keep soil for repotting with your pots and trowels. Remember to keep chemicals stored safely in their original or easily identified packaging – ideally up high, away from curious children and animals.

Label small items

Stick some labels on drawers so you can simply glance to see where nails, screws and other small items are kept.

Use vertical space

Remember that you can store upwards, as well as on the floor. The modular shape of rattan garden furniture, for example, can be stacked when stored inside.

Use hanging space

Every wall and inside of a door can be utilised as storage space. Garden tools can be hung up, rather than taking up valuable ground space. Adjustable shelves are a great way of having shelving storage that can be altered to your specific needs.

These are a just a few ideas to start you off. Once you get going, you may well come up with some genius organisation systems of your own.
