Preparing for a heatwave comes in many forms, including both thinking about how to protect yourself while out in the sun as well as how to protect your garden. Even when heatwaves only last a couple of days, they can have serious effects on your garden.
The following advice will allow you to prepare within enough time and continue to have a garden that’s both healthy and welcoming to you and your wildlife.
Water your plants early
Being hydrated is important for humans and plants alike, so make sure you water your plants early in the morning so they can be well quenched before the heat of the day hits.
Don’t over water your plants
While it seems like a good idea to give your plants lots and lots of water, this can actually have a harmful effect. You can tell when it’s time to water again if the roots are still wet or not.
Protect your plants from intense heat
Again, just like humans, most plants will suffer in intense heat. You can protect them from the sunlight by using a shade cloth, which is a temporary solution for intense periods of heat.
Mulching is also good at helping plants sustain their moisture so they don’t dry up quickly.
Protect yourself
As well as prepping your garden for the heat, don’t forget about yourself! Make sure there are shady areas to cool off and relax where you can place your Supremo Barcelona garden furniture with accompanying parasols.
