This year, the Chelsea Flower Show’s designers impressed with beautiful gardens and floral displays and gave visitors something to enjoy for another year running. The great thing about the flower show is that you can adopt some of the ideas in your own green space, giving yourself your own flower show from the comfort of your rattan garden furniture.
Dense planting
Chris Beardshaw’s A Life Worth Living Garden included a lot of dense planting and foliage in different styles, all encouraging the visitor to celebrate nature and take a moment to enjoy the outdoors. You can do this with your own garden by planting different areas with densely packed flowers that complement each other, giving the illusion you’re in a natural wooded area, as well as a space to breathe and relax.
Inspiration from artists
Sarah Price’s The Nurture Landscapes Garden was inspired by artist Cedric Morris, who not only painted plants but bred and grew them too. This garden featured the colour scheme of his famous bearded irises. The possibilities are endless in your own garden, as there are many inspirational artists to draw from.
Sharing your garden with all creatures
The RSPCA Garden designed by Martyn Wilson was created with nature’s creatures in mind, providing dedicated spaces to birds, insects, and other mammals. This is something to always bear in mind in your own garden as you can provide simple spots to cater for the creatures that might visit, and create a space for all creatures to share.
Be sure to share some inspiration of your own that you took from this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
