Roses have been crowned as the favourite flower of people in the UK, because of their beautiful leaves and lovely scent.
If you are careful in your treatment of them during summer, you will be able to enjoy these features from your Supremo Tuscany furniture throughout autumn too.
Try these tips for long-lasting roses!
Don’t forget to deadhead
Deadheading means cutting the heads off all the way to the node. The purpose of it is to get rid of flowers that have died or faded, so that the rose is able to make new hips. It is vital if you want them to last for longer.
Make time for mulching
Spring may be the ideal season for mulching roses, but there is nothing wrong with doing it in summer. If they have been planted in beds, weed these carefully first. Then feed and water the plants before adding mulch of around 5cm thickness to the soil.
Find time to feed
Your roses should have passed their first summer flush by July, which makes that the best time for feeding. If you do so, it will let them enjoy a second one towards the end of summer or start of autumn. Ease fertiliser into the earth around them using a fork and then water them.
When to water
Roses should be damp – particularly if planted in pots. That means twice daily watering, but you should apply it to the soil not the actual plants. That way you can avoid the roses developing diseases like black spot.
Hopefully these tips help your roses flourish this year, no matter the season!
