Five things to do in your garden during spring

In many ways, spring is the busiest season for a gardener. This is because there is a combination of post-winter care and planting to be done.

Spring should be about new beginnings for the garden, and here are some essential tasks to help that happen.

Inspection

As soon as the weather starts to warm up, go into your garden with a pad and pen. Note down signs of plant damage caused by snow, ice or frost, beds that need cleaning out or any damage to trellises, sheds, fences or walls.

Hardscaping

The first piece of garden care should be hardscaping. This means tackling problems with walls, fences, furniture and other hard items. You can get this done early, when the soil is still too hard for any planting.

Clearing out

Next on the agenda should be clearing out your garden beds. This includes removing everything from weeds and leaves to fallen branches. If you have a bird feeder and bath, this is the time to thoroughly clean them out too.

Soil feeding and planting

Now it’s time to feed your soil and get planting. Lay some manure or compost on top of it alongside plant food. Then, you can think about planting. Nemesia and pansies are both good choices for spring garden planting.

Relaxing

You will also want to take some time to sit back and enjoy your revived garden. Get the Lifestyle garden furniture out and survey the work you have done.

These pointers will help you to get your garden in shape this spring.
