Electro-culture gardening: what is it and is it worth it for your garden?

Gardening experts everywhere are always looking for new tricks, tips and trends to try in the garden. The latest trend, which is supposed to harness the energy of plants, is called electro-culture gardening and apparently isn’t that much of a new idea.

What is electro-culture gardening?

Since the 18th century, there has been interest in seeing if electricity could increase plant growth. Early on in the 20th century, there were investigations over reports that high voltage lines being near plants was stimulating them, which led to Imperial College London’s Dr. Andrew Goldsworthy to investigate further.

Dr Goldsworth found that plant growth was definitely stimulated when electric currents were passed through them. Similarly, Chinese scientists have also been doing research into the method by using electric fields for their crops.

How can I use electro-culture gardening in my garden?

The technique might sound good in principle, but how easy is it in practice? Luckily, it’s quite easy to try out and in the same way that you can purchase your garden accessories such as rattan garden furniture, you can buy copper wire or ready-made electroculture plant stakes for your own plants and crops.

Is electro-culture gardening worth it?

Lots of different practices, tips, and tricks are encouraged in the garden and it’s important to make your own choices about whether they work for you. In regard to electro-culture gardening, it is still very much being researched and there are still a lot of things about the practice that need to be validated.
