A lot of time and effort goes into caring for a garden, even if you have a green thumb. There’s a lot to be learnt, and if you’re just starting out, here are a few common mistakes to avoid.
Neglecting your soil
Soil matters, whether you’re starting small with a potted plant or building a new vegetable plot. Outside plants require certain pH levels for their soil, so it’s important to test this and adjust accordingly.
Forgetting about location
Each plant or crop should come with particular instructions on how to care for it to help it grow, as well as information on what sort of environment it requires. This includes the ideal temperature and whether it needs to be directly facing the sunlight. Your garden will have specific areas suitable for different plants, so don’t forget that this can make an impact.
Overpopulating one area
Depending on the look you’re going for, you might have different areas of your garden that have more plants than others. However, it’s important to note that plants won’t like to live in overpopulated areas because they will have to fight for soil and sunlight, so eventually the more dominant plants will overtake the space. Make a note of what each plant needs and make sure to give it the space that it needs to grow.
Not allocating a place to relax
Once you’ve done all that work in the garden, you’re going to want to enjoy it on your rattan garden furniture, so don’t forget to leave an area for yourself!
