Christmas lights – don’t we just love them? One of the great qualities of festive lights is how many different types you can get. For example, there are icicle lights that are shaped like actual icicles. In this blog, we will show you how to put up icicle lights in the most effective way.
Select a hanging spot
Step one is to decide where the lights will be hung. You will get the best effect if you put them somewhere that real icicles might grow – think roof fascias, guttering and windows.
Measure the chosen place
Once the place for the lights has been chosen, you will need to measure it. Like all other types of string lights, icicle ones only look good if there are enough to cover the area. Add a further 10% to your measurement, to provide some margin for error.
Buy the lights
The next stage is to buy them. They can be purchased from a garden centre or store and are available in different sizes and colours. You can get multicoloured icicle lights or mono-coloured ones in warm white. Make sure you buy specialist outdoor Christmas lights that are weather-resistant.
Put them up
You will need a power source, either indoors or outdoors. If there are none close to hand, you can use an extension lead or adaptor. The string of icicle lights should be fixed into position with cable clips or gutter hooks. Use one for every 1 ft of string.
Icicle lights will look great outside your home if they are properly placed and installed.
