A guide to feeding birds during the summer

Summer is a great time for sitting on your Supremo Palermo garden furniture and watching the birds. When it comes to feeding them in summer though, people are often unsure if they should do so or not. This blog will offer a guide to all you need to know on the subject.

Is it okay to feed birds during summer?

Most bird lovers will know how essential it is to provide food sources for them in winter, but what about summer? Well, the truth is that they need food just as badly in that season. Summer is the period when birds are raising their chicks – which makes easily available food a real help. Not as much food is needed though, so put a bit less in your feeders.

What foods are best for summer?

Food types that contain a lot of protein will be best for summer, because birds are caring for their young and are also moulting. One good example of what to put out is black sunflower seeds; others include mealworms, grated mild cheese, and fruits like grapes, bananas, currants and raisins. You can also buy summer bird food mixtures.

What foods should you avoid?

There are some common bird foods that are unsuitable for summer. Suet cakes and peanuts are two that you should never put out at that time of year. Bread is another type of food to avoid during the summer months.

You can and should feed the birds in summer – just make it the right foods!
