Three caretaking jobs you can do in your garden during May

May is the month where the weather in Britain usually starts to improve. It is the time for getting your Norfolk Leisure Life garden furniture out and kicking back in the sun. There are some garden jobs you can do during May though, if you fancy being a bit more active.

Construct a wildlife habitat

This is something you can do to support the wildlife in your garden. One option is to build a dead wood habitat using logs, while another is to construct habitats out of small piles of twigs and stones. Either way, the idea is to create places where creatures like ground beetles, green shield bugs and centipedes can shelter. They will then get rid of pests such as slugs for you.

Put in plants that attract pollinators

May is not a top planting month in general, but it is a good time for putting in plants that attract bees, birds and other pollinators. The kind of plants you want are ones that are full of pollen and nectar. Some examples to consider include oregano, rosemary, lavender Hidcote, chives and borage. Make sure you plant them in a spot that gets plenty of sunlight.

Let the weeds grow

This one might feel a bit counterintuitive, but not all weeds are harmful. Dandelions are a perfect example of weeds that can do good – and they look attractive, too. Let them grow in your garden to provide wildlife food sources.

If you do these three caretaking activities, your garden will stay healthy throughout May.
