How to protect garden birds from cats

Cats are one of the most popular pets in the UK – except among bird lovers. Our feline friends can be a positive menace in the garden, and can scare away birds.

It will certainly spoil the pleasure of watching these feathered visitors from your Norfolk Leisure Life garden furniture – so what can you do to prevent this from happening?

Here are some tips for protecting birds from cats.

Add spike strips to fences

The word ‘spike’ may alarm you – but do not worry. The spikes on these garden fence strips are made out of either plastic or rubber, and cannot do any real damage to cats. All they are designed to do is make it a bit uncomfortable for cats to climb on your fences, acting as a deterrent.

Use motion sensor sprinklers

If that last idea still makes you a bit queasy, why not try using motion sensor sprinklers? Of course, for this to work, you will need to figure out what places in your garden cats are using to enter. Those are the sections where the sprinklers should be set up. Getting doused with cold water every time they set paw in your garden will soon put them off.

Apply double-sided tape to your fences

This is the most low-cost deterrent of all – but it can still be very effective. Cats hate getting sticky things on their paws, so they will quickly learn to stay away from your fences and your garden.

Give any of these three ideas a go if you want to protect the birds in your garden.
