4 tips for designing a smaller garden

If you have a smaller than average garden, it can be easy to think you don’t have enough space to decorate or call it your own. However, that is not necessarily the case, as there are several ways to make the most of a smaller space, and even create a healthy garden to be proud of.

1. Choose versatile furniture

As tempting as it is to get the biggest and homiest of outdoor sofas, consider the space you have and opt for something smaller as well as something you can easily pack away. Stools or chairs that can be stacked are ideal, as are Outback reclining chairs that can extend but also fold away after using.

2. Use colour

Darker spaces tend to give the illusion of being smaller, whereas brighter areas add vibrance and light, making it seem more open. These colours can be in the form of bright flowers, outdoor rugs and other textiles.

3. Use plant pots

If your garden doesn’t have a large lawn, using plant pots or containers allow you to grow eye-catching plants, but also make use of the space that you do have. These are also easy to maintain on a regular basis.

4. Add a water feature

Water features can be anything from a fountain to a small rock garden, and in a smaller space the latter is probably the best option. The sound of the water and its aesthetic qualities will all help to make your garden more alive and ultimately make it feel bigger.
