Whether you’re a first-time gardener or not, it’s worth keeping on top of relevant trends, hacks and mistakes to avoid when gardening. From planting crops to watering them, there’s several things you need to know when gardening in order for your garden to thrive, allowing you to make the most of its joys while relaxing on your Outback reclining chairs. Here are some mistakes to make sure you DON’T do:
1. Treating all plants the same
It’s important to research your flowers and crops, especially how they are best
planted. Some plants can be directly seeded, but others thrive better if they’re transplanted. You can find care instructions on the seed packets or online.
2. Overwatering your plants
One of the most common gardening mistakes is overwatering. It’s important to check the soil if it’s moist, and only water them if the soil is dry. It is possible to give them too much water.
3. Planting in the shade
Most plants need at least eight hours of sunlight a day, so it’s important to plant them where they get the most sunlight in your garden.
4. Planting everything all at once
Strategically, you don’t want to plant all your flowers and crops at once. Take lettuces for example; if you plant them on a weekly basis, you can harvest them each week.
5. Covering soil in mulch
While mulching has many benefits, keeping soil covered in mulch for a long period can actually have some disadvantages, such as being a hiding place for pests and making the area too warm for plants to grow.
