You’ve bought yourself a gas BBQ, and you’re all set for garden parties. Before you think about getting the Outback reclining chairs out of storage and sending invites though, there are some steps you need to take first. Here is how to prep your BBQ for use.
Washing the grates
You will need to give the grates a good wash when you first get the BBQ. This is because they usually come with a coating of wax to protect them when they are being shipped. The best product to use for cleaning them is mild washing up liquid, and this should be rinsed off using hot water. Then, dry the grates using a gentle cloth. Never leave them to dry or put them in a dishwasher.
Seasoning the grill
The next task will be to season your grates. Using oil that is suitable for high heat, for example canola or vegetable oil, is a good idea. Make sure that every bit of the surface has been covered and then wipe to be sure that the oil is spread evenly. A paper towel will be ideal for that job. Once done, get the grill fired up and leave it on for 15 minutes to let the oil burn away.
Re-seasoning for rust prevention
When the BBQ is new, it will be especially important to re-season it on a regular basis. This will help to guard against rust developing.
Follow these steps and your new gas BBQ is sure to give you hours of outdoor pleasure.
